Expert Teaching

At Bournemouth & Poole College, you will benefit from the knowledge and experience of our expert teaching staff. Furthermore, our lecturers are supported by highly qualified lab technicians, who support the practical learning of our students. Also, with smaller class sizes you will benefit from more contact time with our lecturers.

Outstanding Facilities

Our students benefit from the use of the College’s STEM centre with state-of-the-art equipment.  Our STEM Centre enables the College to enhance and enrich the student experience of STEM subjects, as well as helping them become aware of the wealth of opportunities in STEM related careers.

Students will also get access to our crime scene room, four working labs and a demonstration lab. One of the best things about the College is that our students are treated like adults and their learning environment is specifically made for them, as the majority of lessons take place in our labs.

Real Experience

We work with a number of businesses for work placements and field trips, so you get the practical, hands-on experience alongside your course. We work with the NHS, funeral directors, dentists, GP surgeries, care homes and engineering companies.

Our students also have the chance to take part in extraordinary projects. For example, last year our Applied Science students had the opportunity to undertake the exhumation of graves in the grounds adjacent to the former United Reformed Church in Pokesdown. Read more here

Career Prospects

All of the courses we offer will develop the skills and practice needed for that next step in your career. As well as being able to progress internally, we will prepare you for your next steps. Whether you want to progress to university or you’d like to go straight into work, we’ll help to prepare you for your future.

Liam Stevenson, one of our previous Level 3 students, used his Extended Diploma in Medical Science to progress to university to study medicine. Here’s what he had to say:
“Being on this course has given me opportunities that I would never have had otherwise. I was very fortunate to be able to take part in the exhumation of Pokesdown United Reformed Church, which turned out to be a bigger project than anyone expected. I do not know anyone else that can say they’ve been given that sort of opportunity and I am so grateful for it. I really owe the science department at the College a lot.”
