Former Student Lands Top Job with Rolls Royce

Wan (Wan-Husnie-Razak) Wan-Abdul-Rahman 47, a former Bournemouth and Poole College student has recently landed what he calls his ‘dream-job-come-true’ with Rolls Royce, 25 years after studying at Bournemouth and Poole College.

The college re-welcomed prior student Wan through its doors once again when he came in to tread his old footsteps this month (December). Wan said the place was ‘hardly recognisable’ to how he remembered it when he studied here, as it has grown so much. Upon completion of Wan's course, he returned to Malaysia and secured his first position with BMW, Kuala Lumpa.

Wan’s first role was specifically with BMW Auto Bavaria, a local BMW dealership, following his studies at Bournemouth and Poole College. He went on to work for BMW mechanics and has worked his way through his career. Now working as a Technical Training Manager for Rolls Royce following their takeover of BMW he works with car mechanics for EVs (electric vehicles) from all over the world at his base from Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Training Academy, Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

Wan studied his City and Guilds in Servicing Motor Vehicles at L1 and L2 at Bournemouth and Poole College, back in the late 90s. He changed from the original GNVQ to instead complete both L1 and L2 Service Motor Vehicles in just one year. Wan, who comes from Malaysia and stayed with host family Alec and Jean Russell, who live in Poole whilst undertaking his studies; has stayed in regular contact with them throughout his rise to his recent role.

Alec Russell, his former host said: “It is great to see Wan doing so brilliantly. He studied hard and worked his way up to his successive roles and he has been head-hunted whilst working for BMW in Malaysia. Now he’s come back to where he first began and is living locally in Bognor Regis. We’re delighted for him and we’re really glad to still be in touch.”

Wan is the proud father of five children and has had an interest in cars from a young age having done racing also when he was younger.
