BTS – Business, Tourism, Sports Conference - Wednesday, 17th January 2024

Bournemouth and Poole College BTS Conference – (Business, Tourism, Sports and Uniformed Public Service Conference - 17th January 2024)

The very first student-led BTS Awards (Business, Tourism, Sports & Uniformed Public Services) conference at Bournemouth and Poole College took place on Wednesday, 17th January 2024.

Students studying for T Level in Business along with other courses from the college, played a part in organising their own ceremony. They organised the conference along with their course lecturer, Brittany Claxton with skills they had gained through the course. They planned the event from eight weeks in advance, helped to source guest speakers, filled goodie-bags and set out chairs for the day, amongst a whole host of event management tasks.

George Yates, on the T Level Foundation for Business, said: “It was really nice to be involved with the event and to listen to the talks from the guest speakers.” Speakers at the conference included: Frederick Afrifa, the headline speaker sports celebrity who is an international sprinter and is a two-time national gold medallist Frederick now runs a business called ‘Believe in Greatness’, and talked of his time living in Milan and his rise to fame.  Other speakers included Julie Curtis (National Trust); Andrew Battison (AFC Bournemouth) and Megan Austwick (Teams Job Agency representative).

Judith Grandjean, Learning Manager for the Business, Tourism, Sports, Public Services and Leadership and Management curricula said: “What a great success today has been, the students seemed to really enjoy being a part of their own awards and we had over 200 attendees at the conference. There was an array of lovely awards for attendance, determination and excellence, plus some individualised awards, and big thanks to Brittany Claxton for the initial idea.”
