BPCSU Annual Student Conference - Wednesday, 6th March 2024

Annual Student Conference

Bournemouth and Poole College Student’s Union (BPCSU) held its Annual Student Conference in the Jellicoe Theatre at the Poole campus, on Wednesday, 6th March. This year’s focus was on resilience, student participation, engagement in the community and being ‘heard’ as part of the student voice.

Putting students first is key to good outcomes for students. The theme of the 2024 Conference was ‘Your place in the Community’. The overriding success of the morning-packed agenda was the panel discussion on how to take an active part in the community – and a discussion held by Richard Allen-Campbell from ‘Loud Speaker’, which: “Aims to make life more fulfilling for young people, envisioning a world where they can confidently speak out.” Loud Speaker adopt an ethos that fosters social change and elevates graduates, with aspirations to become the top-rated youth training provider in the UK.

Other significant sessions included VR (Virtual Reality) in the classroom, and Youth Social Action at Bournemouth and Poole College.

The Panel Discussion looked at means for students to make their CV more attractive to future employers, as well as looking at ways to ensure that the community is at the centre of decision-making on projects.  Students were also encouraged to turn their passion projects into community projects, and there were many active and lively interactions from students.
