Apprenticeship Summary
Duties to include:
- Carry out service and repair work on marine propulsion systems.
- Carry out the installation and repair of electrical and engineering systems on vessels.
- To look after electrical and engineering systems on the yards own boats.
- Assist with all yard duties
Training Provided
• Bournemouth & Poole College will be the apprenticeship provider for this Level 3 apprenticeship.
• This is a block release course.
• The employer will give guidance and support throughout
• Off-the-job training must make up at least 20% of the apprentice’s contracted hours, over the total duration of the apprentice’s planned training period
• This Standard apprenticeship may include Functional Skills in maths and/or English as required
• Some course units covered: Introduction to the marine industry, Servicing and maintenance of marine engines and ancillary systems, Installation, fault diagnosis and repair of marine engines and more.
• The apprentice will be on program for 4 years and will be undertaking the marine engineering standard.
Future Prospects
Prospect of full time position upon completion.
Requirements
Qualifications Required
GCSE grade 4/C in English and Maths or functional skills level 2 or equivalent.
Skills Required
Good time management keen and punctual and good people skills
Have some experience working on engines and electrical systems and have an understanding of the principles involved.
Have an understanding of the variety of marine equipment and its function.
To communicate and discuss with customers and staff in a clear and accurate manner
To carry out the work and complete it to an agreed time scale and standard (with attention paid to the appearance and tidiness of the work when completed)
