Course Overview
This course will take students through the User Experience Design (UXD) process. From strategy, wireframes to visual design. The framework will be the ‘5 Planes of UX’ – made popular by UX guru, Jesse James Garrett, author of the book ‘The Elements of User Experience’.
The 5s are:
Strategy
Scope
Structure
Skeleton
Surface
There will be demos and hands-on exercises. There is no need for any specialist software as most of the course can be worked on using paper and pen or simple tools such as Google Slides, Powerpoint or MS Word.
The emphasis on this course is the planning of the website. It will not purely focus on the visual design (UI) stage. It will not cover any website coding or development.
You will learn:
How to define what your customer need from a website
How to define what the business or website owner needs from the website
How to design a website that serves user goals
The importance of user journeys as well as website pages
How to organise, prioritise and categorise website content into information architecture (IA)
The core principles of usability and accessibility
How to design website content
The basics of visual design (‘look and feel’)
How to produce basic wireframes
The course is for students who have little or no previous experience or may have some experience and wish to consolidate their understanding with practical hands-on experience.

Course Outcomes & Assessment
● Produce a set of wireframes for your website project
● Produce a mood board to show how you would interpret wireframes at the visual design (UI) stage

Work experience is not applicable for this course.
