Course Overview

This course is designed to be both fun and enjoyable. You will be introduced to traditional art and design skills of Drawing and Painting and learn about the work of practicing artists. It is designed to support students into education within a large, busy college through a nurturing and supportive approach. 

During the course you will study in the following areas of art and design:

•     Mixed Media
•     Drawing and Illustration
•     3D and Surface Pattern
•     Printmaking
•     Painting
•     2D and 3D Design

You will have a weekly tutorial where your work will be looked at and monitored. Assessments take place at the end of each project and you will receive continuous support and feedback on your progress via tutorial. Your course will likely include the study of GCSE English and Mathematics

You will need to achieve 4 GCSEs including English and Maths Grades 3-1 (formerly GCSE Grades D-G) and the successful completion of a Foundation Entry Level 3 qualification and have achieved an Entry Level 3 Functional Skill in English and Maths.

We would also require a portfolio of current artwork. This could be examples of drawings, paintings, sculpture, photography, textiles, design etc...

Learning the basic skills within art and design will prepare to progress to higher level. You will also have the opportunity to gain the skills required to support employment applications within your tutorial sessions.

Bournemouth and Poole College is an approved Centre for UAL Awarding Body, UAL Level 1 Art, Design and Media.

All Level 1 students are encouraged to complete one week of external work experience as part of their course. 

On completion of this course, you could progress onto the UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design or there are options to go into employment/further training in an art or design-related field.

On this course, you will learn basic art and design skills that will enable you to progress to another higher qualification course. Studying GCSE English and Maths will provide you with the skills to help you apply for employment.

This course has studio fees of £100.00 payable at enrolment (mentioned above). This covers all materials used and contributes to the cost of an educational visit.

You will have access to Microsoft Teams, which will contain all of your project work, guidance and resources and this can be accessed anywhere via a computer, mobile phone or tablet.
