The Specialised Chef Scholarship is a prestigious 3-year Advanced Apprenticeship which offers you the opportunity to train in all aspects of professional cookery to the highest level. The Scholarship is arranged by the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and is managed by The Bournemouth & Poole College.
You will be sponsored by an individual hotel/restaurant where you will work during your training and you must be prepared to live and work away from home. These are mostly (but not all), in London and include Claridge's Hotel, The Ritz, The Dorchester and Chewton Glen Hotel.
The course includes:
Anybody who has a clear dedication to cookery
You must be 19 years of age or under when the course commences in September. You should have, GCSE English and Maths at grade 9-3 (A-D), plus four additional GCSEs at same level.
You must be prepared to train and live in London hotels and work in restaurants or country house hotels. Successful entry will depend upon interview and assessments.
You will be continually assessed throughout your training and will take some external tests/examinations for Functional Skills (if required). Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set to ensure you complete your course. There will be an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of Commis Chef and Chef de Partie Standard.
You will need to find a 2 week placement in a busy kitchen prior to starting the course in September, which is local to where you live. You will find this placement independently and confirm where this will be. If you are struggling with finding somewhere, we can advise how to approach local employers.
Once you start in the first term, we willl place you in a local establishment one day a week, to ensure you are work-ready, prior to your Apprenticeship main placement in the second term (the College will confirm these two placements with you)
After graduation, you will receive the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Diploma in Professional Cookery and as a Specialised Chef be able to work in prestigious hotels and restaurants throughout the world.
