Course Overview

This qualification is designed to introduce learners to cyber security. It will provide the learners with the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of the sector whilst acting as a stepping stone that will lead some learners into studying cyber security at a higher level.

  • key terminology and legislation used in cyber security
  • the behaviours and effects of malicious software
  • how to reduce or remove a cyber security vulnerability
  • cyber security incident response plans
  • the behaviours and skills expected within cyber security

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully complete six mandatory units.
Mandatory units
01 Introduction to cyber security
02 Understand terminology used in cyber security
03 Understand legal and ethical aspects of cyber security
04 Understand common threats to cyber security
05 Understand methods of maintaining cyber security
06 Understand working with others in cyber security

There are no optional units.

This qualification allows adult learners the opportunity to gain knowledge of cyber security whilst developing skills required for employment.

The objectives of this qualification are to:

To do this course you should have... 

Applications are encouraged by anyone with a desire to work in Computing and IT. 

Learners are admitted to the programme by application form and formal interview, with a further guidance interview where appropriate. Where necessary, evidence of your determination to succeed may be requested. 

Applicants must have achieved GCSE at grade A* to C (grade 3 or above in the newly reformed GCSE grading) or Level 1 equivalent in English and Maths before the course starts.  The College does offer Functional Skills intensive courses and exam entry for English and Maths.  For those with English as a second or other language, either IELTS 5.5 or successful completion of The College language assessment is required.

We will offer you the opportunity to check your level in these subjects prior to/at interview and support you in identifying how you can improve these skills if necessary.

Assessment
This is a competency and knowledge-based qualification which is internally assessed and externally quality assured.

Learners who achieve this qualification could progress to:
• Level 3 Certificate in Cyber Security Practices
• Level 3 Diploma in IT User Skills
• Level 3 Award in Cyber Security Leadership or Level 3 Foundation Technical Level IT: Cyber Security

Adult, part_time_day: FREE

This fully-funded course is available to any adult aged 24 and over who wants to achieve their first full level 2 qualification, which is equivalent to an technical certificate.

19 to 23 year olds will continue to be eligible for their first full level 2 via the adult education budget, and for any additional qualifications made available through this offer.

Funding:

This is a fully funded course if you have not achieved a full level 2 qualification. If you have a Level 2 equivalent then you may incur fees.
