Course Overview
The LEAP Programme is an Entry 3 one year programme for students with moderate learning difficulties. The course aims to develop confidence, teamwork skills and problem-solving abilities, maximising each student’s potential through an individual programme relevant to their needs.Students receive high levels of support within small groups.
The course structure is negotiated with each individual student depending on their needs and interests but is based around a core structure that includes Functional Skills, Independent skills, Information Technology, employability,cookery and Enrichment. Students are supported through individual and group tutorials.
Students can also choose vocational options from those on offer based upon their primary learning goal.
Depending on availability vocational options on offer include Art, Drama, Floristry, Horticulture, Business enterprise, working in the in house Cafe and participating in Sports Studies,
There are no formal entry requirements but to benefit from the course you should be committed to improving your qualifications and skills.
Assessment will be ongoing and take place within the taught environment. For the vocational studies, students will build a portfolio of evidence that proves their competence and understanding of a range of topics. This is assessed by the subject teacher. Literacy and Numeracy qualifications are assessed formally under examination conditions.
Students are able to take part in a range of voluntary work opportunities within their group and given the opportunity for individual work placements where appropriate.
Students may progress onto the Year 2 Pre Vocational Extended studies programme.The progression course,other college courses, training, employment or supported employment.
This course is focused on developing independence, life skills and general work skills with opportunities to experience a range of different work and alternative options that will help you choose the right path for you.
There are no course fees for students aged under 19 years.
Teaching takes place in small groups. Academic Support Assistants are available to provide further support. If appropriate, students will have the opportunity to work towards and gain English and mathematics qualifications.
