The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production has been designed to provide students with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to progress to further study and training in a range of music industry related sectors including music performance, production, promotion, events, composition and others. The qualification has been designed for students who have an interest in music performance and/or music production, who wish to explore and extend this interest via a full-time, immersive learning experience. Many students will have identified a specific career in the music industry that they wish to progress to (e.g. performer, songwriter, producer, engineer etc), using this qualification as a starting point.
The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production will introduce learners to some of the fundamental theories, skills and techniques used within music performance and production.
The qualification will provide students with:
• An introduction to a range of activities essential to the development and delivery of music performance and production such as composition, listening skills, the process of rehearsal, technology and delivery of a music performance and production as a collaborative activity
• An introduction to the diversity of roles and responsibilities within the music performance and production sector, the importance of health and safety as integral to the performer and production and the personal and professional characteristics needed for a career in the music industry
• An introduction to the communication skills used in music performance and production allowing exploration of the specific skills and attributes required for communicating with an audience
• An opportunity to demonstrate understanding through the performance and production
• An opportunity to research the history and context of music performance and production and develop understanding of the value of contextual research in informing practice
• An opportunity to integrate and use previously acquired skills, knowledge and understanding and to explore and develop more specific techniques, skills and attributes for music performance and production

• An opportunity to take greater responsibility in the management of an assignment of personal interest and prepare for progression within a chosen discipline

Students should have a minimum of 4 x GCSE’s at Grade 3 or above (including English and Maths at minimum of Grade 3). It is expected that all students will be able to demonstrate some musicianship skills on an instrument/voice. All students will complete a practical audition/interview.
The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Music Performance and Production qualification is made up of eight units and students must successfully complete all of them – all units are mandatory. All units relate to the music performance and production sector and all are delivered through vocational learning. The units focus on the underpinning skills, knowledge and understanding that support all music performance and production activity. Students are assessed via a ‘Final Major Project’ which takes place at the end of the course when they are at their best. This large project allows students to demonstrate all the learning that has taken place through completion of the other units. This unit is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall qualification grade.
All students will participate in a minimum of 30 hours industry related work-related learning. In addition, all students complete an online employability course to develop skills for online and offline job searches, create tailored CVs and applications and develop interview techniques.

Vocational music courses can open up various exciting career paths in the music industry in key employment sectors such as Music Creation, Live Music, Recorded Music, Music Publishing, Music Representation and Music Retail/Merchandise.
The College has a wide range of facilities on offer at the North Road Music Centre:
Live Performance Room, 7 fully equipped Rehearsal Rooms, 5 Recording Studios (Pro Tools/Cubase and ancillary equipment, including TL Audio M4, Audient Zen, Soundcraft Ghost, M-Audio), Lecture Room, Lecture Theatre, Technology Suite (PCs - Pro Tools/Cubase) and 6 Practice /Editing Rooms.
Course Costs:
You will be required to pay a £60 fee to cover the costs of enrichment activities including an educational trip.
Additional Costs:
Students should have their own ‘closed back’ headphones and a flash drive/portable SSD with sufficient storage to save music projects. Guitarists and Bass players should bring in their own instrument and students are expected to cover the costs of consumables such as guitar strings, drum sticks, guitar picks etc.
