Course Overview

This course is ideal for anyone with an interest in manufacturing engineering as it will lead to a work-related qualification that reflects the knowledge, skills and understanding required in the sector.

The aims of this qualification are to:

  • inspire and enthuse learners to consider a career in the engineering sector, with a blend of eletrical and mechanical units
  • give learners the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the engineering sector
  • support progression to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic engineering course or an apprenticeship
  • give learners the potential opportunity, in due course, to enter employment within a wide range of job roles.

The course covers a number of core & mandatory units:

  • Engineering Environmental Awareness
  • Fitting and Assembly Techniques
  • Fabrication and welding principles
  • Electrical and electronic systems and devices

The teaching of these units includes practical workshop experience.

You will also study GCSE or Functional Skills English and Maths if you are required to improve your grades.

Students who are interested in developing a career within the engineering and manufacturing sectors

You will require a minimum of 5 GCSE's including English, Maths and Science at grades 9 - 3 (formally A* to C)

You will be assessed through the completion of theory and practical tests.

You will be required to complete a minimum of 30 hours of work experience with a manufacturing/engineering employer during your course.

Progression at The College onto a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering or an Apprenticeship.

The qualification will provide you with the theory and practical skills to help you gain employment in the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

There will be a £150 materials fee at enrolment
