Course Overview

The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age with applied knowledge in the early years, 0 - 5 years.  The qualification content meets the Department for Education's (DfE) Level 2 full and relevant criteria for a Level 2 Early Years Pracitioner.  Upon successful completion of this qualifcation learners can enter the workforce as a qualified Level 2 Early Years Practitioner or if progression requirements are met, continue to study for a Level 3 Diploma holding Early Years Educator (EYE) status.

This qualfication allows a learner to count towards the Level 2 ratio as a qualifed Level 2 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce

Learners may work under supervision in a variety of roles such as:

- Nursery practitioner

- Classroom assistant

- Pre-school practitioner

Candidates will be required to attend college on a weekly basis and are taught the theory behind a range to topics, such as Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity etc.  We use an eportfolio system called onefile which can be accessed on any suitable electonic device using your personal secure login.  Assignments are set to ensure you have the appropriate knowledge and understanding of the subject taught.  You will also be assessed in the workplace and be required to submit a range of additional workplace evidence.

Learners must be 19 years old or over

Learners must be working or vounteering in an appropriate early years setting for a least 10 hours per week.  Literacy skills will be assessed as part of the interview process to ensure that the candidate has the capabilites to successfully achieve the level 2 qualification.

Students will be assessed via online assignments submitted to show knowledge and understanding of the various topics making up the full Level 2 Diploma, and also they will be observed in the workplace.

On successful completion of the Level 2 Diploma there may be the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 Early Years Educator course.  Progression will be assessed on an individual basis to ensure the candidate has the skills, commitment, abilites and job role opportunities to succeed.  It is a requirement that a Level 2 Maths and English qualification is achieved prior to starting the Level 3 course.
