Course Overview

The Level 2 Automotive course is a 1-year full-time course that comprises of a Level 2 Subsidiary Diploma in Automotive Maintenance and Repair.

The course is dedicated to giving the learner the ability to carry out Maintenance and Repair on the main Vehicle components and systems.

This course is designed to enable the student to be able to remove and refit components and have a good understanding of the vehicle systems and how they work.

G4S - Skills in Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment 

G4K - Knowledge of Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment 

LV01S - Skills in Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance 

LV01K - Knowledge of Routine Light Vehicle Maintenance 

LV02S - Skills in Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Engine Units and Components 

LV02.1K - Knowledge of Light Vehicle Engine Mechanical, Lubrication and Cooling System Units and Components 

LV02.2K - Knowledge of Light Vehicle Fuel, Ignition, Air and Exhaust System Units and Components

LV03S - Skills in Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Electrical Units and Components 

LV04S - Skills in Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components 

LV04K - Knowledge of Removing and Replacing Light Vehicle Chassis Units and Components

LV0506S- Skills in Inspecting Light Vehicles Using Prescribed Methods

LV0506K-Knowledge of Inspecting Light Vehicles Using Prescribed Methods

 

These units comprise of both theory and practical elements and the course has a 50/50 split of workshop and theory lessons. Each unit has a multiple-choice online exam as well as a written assignment to show your knowledge and practical assignments to display your skills. Your evidence will be completed on an online portfolio enabling you to complete your assignments from any computer with internet access.

You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades A*-D including English and maths at grades 9-3 (formerly A*-D) and ideally Science or Resistant Materials. Alternatively, successful completion of a relevant Level 1 Certificate or Diploma Automotive qualification and have achieved a Level 1 Functional Skill in English and maths.

You will be assessed through various methods including:

• Workshop based competence tasks 
• Written assessments
• External online testing
• Functional Skills/GCSE assessments in Maths and English
• Eportfolio of evidence to show your competence and understanding of the qualification and skills

Work experience placements are to be found by the learner, the College can assist you to find this.

This course will get you ready to apply for a Level 3 apprenticeship or our Level 3 Full-time course.

This course will get you ready to apply for a an apprenticeship or working in a garage.

All other equipment will be provided

There is a £137.55 materials fee to be paid at enrolment.
