You will be taught in class by subject specialists and there will also be speaker’s from outside agencies who will be invited into the class to discuss various aspects of Health and Social Care in order to enhance your knowledge so that you will be able to complete your assignments to the best of your ability.

This course is designed for 16 - 18 year olds who would like a career in the care sector but do not have the required English or Maths qualifications, or the self confidence to be able to enrol straight onto the Level 2 or 3 Health and Social Care courses.

You will need to achieve GCSEs grades 3 - 1 including English and Maths. Alternatively successful completion of a Foundation Entry Level 3 qualification and have achieved a Level 1 in Functional Skills English and Maths.

Assessment will occur through a range of methods which include: written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.  There are no exams or external assessments on this course.

There may be an opportunity for students who are up to date with their coursework to attend a placement in the summer term. Please note that only those with a satisfactory DBS check will be able to attend a placement.

On successful completion of this course you could progress onto other level 2 courses including the Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification.

This qualification does not qualify learners to work directly with adults, children or young people, but provides a starting point for deciding whether a career in the sector is right for them.  Eventually, once you have also completed a level 2 qualification in either children or HSC then you may well be able to gain employment as an assistant practitioner in the caring sector.

Gaining some experience prior to the start of the course is also very useful.  Voluntary work at a local pre-school, residential home or day centre can provide an invaluable first step into industry and offer good preparation for the course.
