Perhaps you fancy being a Web Designer, a Programmer or does creating computer animations appeal? This course offers an exciting opportunity to gain a Foundation in IT that could lead you to your dream career.

After a successful year on Level 1, you could progress to our Everything IT Level 2 course.

As part of the course, you will complete a Mathematics and English qualification which will further help to prepare you for employment. 

There will be mandatory units that need to be completed as well as IT and Computing specific units and activities:

Units for the Award:

  • Mandatory units:
    • Developing a Personal Progression Plan
  • Sector units:
    • Branding a Product
    • Creating an Animation

Units for the Certificate:

  • Mandatory units:
    • Being Organised
  • Sector units (to be confirmed):
    • Drawing a Plan of a Room
    • Exploring Local Visitor Attractions
    • Creating a Website

 

Anyone who has an interest or a flair with IT and who wants to explore employment opportunities using IT skills and knowledge.

You will need to achieve GCSEs Grades 3 - 2 (Formerly Grades D-E), including English and Maths.  Alternatively, successful completion of a Foundation Entry Level 3 qualification and have achieved an Entry Level 3 Functional Skill in English and Maths.

We use a range of assessment methods, including practical, simulation and written assignments.

You will participate in 30 hours of work experience with a local IT company as part of this study programme.

You have three progression routes:

  • Level 2 qualification at Bournemouth and Poole College 
  • Employment in IT Industry 
  • Apprenticeship training with opportunities for further part-time study 

The qualification opens up employment opportunities in a whole host of jobs in the industry, from Forensic Computing, IT Technician, IT Security, Web Development to Database Administration.

You’ll be based in Lansdowne. This is a very practical, hands-on programme, integrating new and emerging technologies.

During your course, you will have the opportunity to go on trips and to compete in competitions e.g. Centre VR.
