This course is designed for people with an ambition for a career in the Hair industry. It will provide you with a good introduction from which you could progress to further courses.
During the course you will be introduced to practical expertise and some knowledge of the industry. You will receive help and support with your academic skills to help you progress onto further courses.
Please be aware that as part of your practical lessons students learn the treatments on each other. Further development is then performed on paying clients.
You will develop a range of practical skills and underpinning knowledge of the theory which will be mainly taught in The College's salons.
Subjects studied include:
English and Maths GCSE will also be integrated into your study programme.
This course is designed for those who have a passion for Hairdressing and want to learn basic treatments before progressing onto Level 2 Diploma in Women's Hair Level 2 or Barbering L2.
You will need to achieve 3 GCSEs grades including English and maths grades 3-2 (formerly D-F). Alternatively successful completion of a Foundation Entry Level 3 qualification and have achieved an Entry Level 3 in English and maths. Each applicant will be assessed on their individual merits, and a keen interest & self motivation in Hair as a career is essential.
You will be assessed through theory work, assignments and practical assessments.
Each learner will be expected to work within our 'Renew salons' and dispensary area, to gain valuable Customer care skills. All students will also complete a voluntary industry workplacement in an external local salon for a minimum of 1 week, which you will need to organise yourself.
Progression to suitable qualifications such as the Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing or Level 2 Diploma in Barbering or Apprenticeship training.
Job opportunities could include working as a junior Hairdresser or trainee hair stylist in a salon. This course can enable you to progress onto further Hairdressing courses here at the College.

Working in our public salons you will gain valuable experience in offering a professional salon service, including customer care, client consultation and professional treatments in a realistic working environment. You will also have access to The College's virtual learning environment (MOODLE) to support your learning.
Enrichment opportunities are available and are offered to students throughout the duration of the course.
