Course Overview

IELTS is for individuals who are not English and who need to demonstrate their proficiency in English to get into university, professionals wishing to register with regulatory bodies and career advancement (e.g. nurses, doctors, engineers) for non-native speakers of English.

Our IELTS Preparation Course is designed to cover all aspects of the IELTS exam, ensuring you are fully prepared to achieve your desired score. The course is structured around the four main sections of the IELTS exam: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, with a focus on exam strategies and language improvement.

Minimum level 1 ESOL/Functional Skills Level 1/ CEFR B2/

This is an IELTS Preparation course and does not include the exam which must be booked with an IELTS testing centre.  Assessments in all the 4 skills takes place within the classroom.

 1. Listening

  • Overview of the IELTS Listening Test
    • Understanding the structure and types of questions.
  • Listening Practice
    • Practise with a range of accents (British, American, Australian).
    • Listening to conversations, monologues, and academic talks.
  • Key Strategies
    • Improving concentration and note-taking.
    • Identifying key information, numbers, and dates.
  • Question Types
    • Multiple choice, matching, short answer, form completion, and more.

2. Reading

  • IELTS Reading Test Overview
    • Familiarising yourself with academic and general reading formats.
  • Skimming and Scanning Techniques
    • Quickly identifying main ideas and details in passages.
  • Question Types
    • True/false/not given, multiple choice, sentence completion, matching headings, etc.
  • Reading Passages
    • Practise with a wide range of topics, including scientific, historical, and social themes.
  • Improving Vocabulary
    • Expanding academic and general vocabulary to understand complex texts.
  • Time Management
    • Learning how to allocate time for each section to answer all questions effectively.

 

3. Writing

  • IELTS Writing Test Overview
    • Understanding the format for both Task 1 and Task 2.
  • Task 1: Academic Writing
    • Graph/Chart Description: How to describe trends, comparisons, and data analysis.
  • Task 1: General Writing
    • Letter Writing: Learning the appropriate tone, structure, and language for formal, informal, and semi-formal letters.
  • Task 2: Essay Writing
    • Structuring different types of essays (opinion, discussion, problem-solution, etc.).
    • Developing clear arguments, using examples, and organizing ideas logically.
  • Writing Skills
    • Improving grammar, sentence structure, and coherence.
    • Using linkers and cohesive devices for smooth transitions between ideas.
  • Personalized Feedback
    • Detailed corrections and feedback on practice essays to improve score.

4. Speaking

  • IELTS Speaking Test Format
    • Understanding the structure (Introduction, Part 1, Part 2, Part 3).
  • Part 1: Introduction & Interview
    • Practising answering personal questions about hobbies, work, family, etc.
    • Part 2: The Talk
    • Speaking for 2 minutes on a given topic with preparation.
    • Structuring responses and practising fluency.
  • Part 3: Discussion
    • Engaging in more complex discussions on abstract topics.
  • Pronunciation & Fluency
    • Improving pronunciation, intonation, and rhythm for natural speech.
  • Grammar & Vocabulary
    • Expanding vocabulary and using a range of grammar to answer different questions.
