Course Overview

Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people looking for on-the-job training and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace, backed up by attendance at college just one day a week.

An Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing will give you valuable experience of a variety of hairdressing related activities. You will continue working in a salon environment where your duties could encompass many areas of hairdressing usually working as a junior stylist building on your hairdressing skills from NVQ 2 and gaining practical hairdressing experience in all areas. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.

Where possible staff from College Apprenticeships Training will find you an employer and a place of work (although students who are already employed are welcome to apply if sponsored by their employer). Your offer of Apprenticeship training will be dependent upon work placements being available.

Apprenticeships are a great option for school leavers who want to get straight onto the career ladder. An Apprenticeship is equivalent to 5 GCSE's.

To gain the full Advanced Apprenticeship you will work towards the following qualifications:

The NVQ qualification is work-related and will relate specifically to your job role.

Units include:

You should be medically able to take up employment in this vocational area.

You will be continually assessed throughout your training. The assessments will take place in the college and in the workplace, plus you will take some external tests/examinations for key skills (if required). Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set to ensure you complete your Advanced Apprenticeship on time.
