The UAL Awarding Body Level 2 Award and Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology has been developed in response to an identified need for students studying for qualifications in media to have a broad diagnostic experience that provides them with an understanding of the discipline and prepares them for the reality of the sector and progression paths and careers available to them.
The Level 2 Award and Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology will provide students with an introduction to a broad range of creative and technical skills in media production, enabling them to both re-engage with education and acquire the requisite skills, knowledge and understanding to progress to further education and employment within the industry
The course is split into two qualifications<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" />
· UAL Level 2 Award in Creative Media Production
· UAL Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media Production
This units have been carefully chosen for this course to ensure that the learners are able to explore a range of modules and gain a wide variety of skills. This includes creative software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Blender, Game Maker and Unreal Engine. This will provide the learners with a large range of creative software skills which they can carry forward into a level 3 course. The course is split into the two qualifications as it means that some learners who struggle with the depth of level 2 can still progress from level 1 whilst focusing on their Maths and English alongside the course.
As the course is built on a portfolio structure, it means that the learners will have a large portfolio of work which they can display all of their college work and daily tasks to show their development throughout the year. They can then build on this if they
continue with us in the future. This will not only contain their final pieces of work, but also their development throughout the year, so they too can benefit from seeing their progression with work.
The learners on this course may have previously been on a level 1 course, or have come straight from school. Many students need to either complete GSCE English or Maths (or both) alongside their normal IT timetable.
For learners in this class, they can continue onto our level 3 UAL Games course next year, or a different department depending on their GCSE grades and work ability. A few students may be successful in joining the T levels in Digital.
What the course could look like:
UAL Level 2 Award
· Unit 1 Introduction to creative media methods and skills
· Unit 2 Introduction to production techniques in creative media
For these two units, the learners could create a 2d game in either Game Maker or Godot, by completing research, planning, production and reviewing their work.
UAL Level 2 Diploma will also include:
· Unit 3 Understanding an audience in creative media production
· Unit 4 Contextual research for creative media production
These two units could be combined to be a research project about different types of target audiences in the entertainment industry
· Unit 5 Exploring audio production and technology
· Unit 6 Exploring visual production and technology
These two units could be a project based on creating content using video and audio to create and edit sequences in Adobe After Effects
· Unit 7 Exploring interactive media production and technology
This unit could be a mini time - based game which learners make in Unreal Engine
· Unit 8 Personal project and presentation in creative media production (internally assessed and externally modified)
This unit could allow learners to choose a pathway in either a final game or video which they wish to create on a bigger scale.
