Course Overview

This Foundation degree is aimed at technical and creative students with a keen interest in digital broadcasting; a background in esports is desired but not essential. The main goal of the course is to equip students with a robust knowledge of the content creation, promotion, broadcasting and live event streaming elements of the Esports industry. The course will also help students develop soft skills for example, creativity, problem solving and teamworking, all of which will be beneficial in any field. The course is a response not only to the growing popularity of Esports but also the demand for developing the fundamental skills needed to produce engaging content for today’s new media environments. With a focus on areas such as research, project planning, studio and streaming production, camera skills, editing, on screen graphics and post production, backed up with a strong theoretical aspect that looks at current regulation, the perception of the industry and representation there within. FdA graduates will leave with a range of transferable digital skills, making them employable across multiple sectors or can progress to a higher level qualifications, such as BA(Hons) programmes at Bournemouth and Poole College or Arts University Bournemouth.

This course is aimed at technical and creative students with a keen interest in digital broadcasting. A background in esports is useful but not essential. The course aims to provide students with practical skills and industry-relevant knowledge. It is especially beneficial for those seeking a hands-on and experiential learning journey in digital production, broadcasting, and events.

  • A Level 3 Qualification minimum (within digital media or esports is desired) 

  • An interest in esports and digital media

  • A desire to gain practical skills in these areas

  • Basic knowledge or experience in related fields is beneficial but not mandatory

  • Level 4 Units:
    • Each unit includes a combination of practical assignments, research/planning documentation, and reflective evaluations. Some units are assessed on a pass/fail basis with written feedback, while others are graded with a percentage mark.
  • Level 5 Units:
    • Similar structure with an emphasis on independent and collaborative projects, including a professional practice unit and the delivery of a live esports broadcast event.

The course includes practical, hands-on experience and opportunities for work experience in various related fields such as digital media, event management, and broadcasting. Students will engage in collaborative projects and real-world events.

After completing this course, students may consider:

  • BA (Hons) programmes at Bournemouth and Poole College or Arts University Bournemouth (BA in Esports Production, Broadcasting and Events at Bournemouth and Poole College currently under development)

Graduates can pursue various roles across several industries:

Esports Industry Roles:

  • Broadcasting and Production: Live streaming technicians, video producers, camera operators, sound engineers, technical directors.
  • Event Management: Esports event planners, coordinators, marketing specialists.
  • Content Creation: Social media managers, content creators, brand strategists for esports organizations.

Mainstream Media and Broadcasting Roles:

  • Television and Radio: Producers, directors, camera operators, sound technicians, editors.
  • Digital Marketing and Social Media: Digital marketers, social media strategists, content managers.
  • Corporate Media Production: Corporate video producers, webinar coordinators, digital content creators.

£7,750 per year

Students who are eligible, can apply for a student loan via Student finance login - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) to cover the cost of the tutiton fees.

International Fees 

We currently do not offer this course to International applicants due to UKVI regulations.

The FdA in Esports Production, Broadcasting and Events at Bournemouth and Poole College addresses the gap in specialised esports education along the South Coast. It offers a practical focus, equipping students with versatile skills suitable for various sectors such as mainstream media, digital marketing, and corporate communications.
