Apprenticeships are a popular choice for young people aged over 16 looking for on-the-job training and the opportunity to gain nationally-recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace, backed up by attendance at college just one day a week.
An Advanced Apprenticeship in Electrical Industry will give you valuable experience of a variety of electrical activities. You will be working in various environments covering Industrial, Commercial and Domestic Installations. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.
Your offer of Apprenticeship training will be dependent upon you securing employment, the college may be able to assist you with this.
Apprenticeships are a great option for school leavers who want to get straight onto the career ladder. An Apprenticeship is equivalent to 5 GCSEs.
The apprentice does not have to pay any fees for this course, however the employer may be required to pay a contribution towards the costs of training.

We MUST stress the importance of you contacting employers yourself as without an employer it will not be possible for you to commence training.
You will be continually assessed throughout your training. Most of the assessment will take place in the workplace, plus you will take some external tests/examinations for key skills (if required) and technical certificate. Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set to ensure you complete your Advanced Apprenticeship on time.
End-point Assessment
The synoptic end-point assessment will be provided by the AM2. This single common assessment is externally set and marked by an independent body within an independent assessment structure. For the last 30 years, the AM2 has been recognised within the electrotechnical industry as the benchmark of an individual’s occupational competence, providing verification of competence for tens of thousands of electricians. The AM2 will assess the Apprentice’s skills, knowledge and confirm behaviours against the theory and performance criteria within the standard.
On successful completion of this Advanced Apprenticeship, you will be a Qualified Electrician. You could progress to Approved status by attending further technical courses, and could also progress in your chosen career at supervisory/management.
