Course Overview

The aim of this qualifcation is to provide learners with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age, with applied knowledge in the early years, 0 - 5 years.  The qualfication content meets the Department for Education's (DfE) Level 3 'full and relevant' criteria for a Level 3 Early Years Practitioner.  Upon successful completion of this qualfication learners can enter the workforce as a qualified Level 3 Early Years Practitioner.

This qualfication allows learners to count towards the Level 3 ratio as a qualified Level 3 Early Years Practitioner across the Early Years Workforce

Learners may be employed in a variety of roles such as:

-  Senior Nursery Practitioner/Manager (when experience has been gained)

- Classroom Assistant

- Pre-school Deputy/Room Leader/Manager

Canididates will be required to attend college on a weekly basis and are taught the theory behind a range or topics, such as Safeguarding, Play, Equality and Diversity etc.  We use an e-portfolio system called One File, which can be accessed on any suitable electronic device using your personal secure login.  Assignments are set to ensure you have the in-depth knowledge and understanding of the subjects taught, linking your own practical experience to knowledge throughout the course.  You will also be assessed in the workplace and be requried to submit a range of additional workplace evidence.

Apprentices must be working for approximately 30 hours per week in an appropriate early years setting.  It is a requirement that a Level 2 Maths and English qualfication is achieved prior to starting the Level 3 course in order to ensure the full apprenticeship is achieved and to meet sector requirements.

An apprentice must pass an end point assessment with an independent end point assessment organisation before they can be counted as a fully qualified child care practitioner.  The end point assessment (EPA) for the Level 3 Childcare apprenticeship standard includes a knowledge test and an interview based on a portfolio of evidence.  Before the EPA can take place the apprentice must successfully go through the Gateway process, this process requires the apprentice to have completed the Level 2 Early Years Practitioner Diploma, Maths and English qualficaitons.  The employer, learner and provider are requried to sign a declaration that confirms the apprentice is ready for the EPA.  The EPA process ensures the apprentice has the appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviours to be an effective and highly trnained early years practitioner.

On successful completion of the Level 3 EYE Diploma, there may be the opportunity to progress onto the Fda Early Years Services (University of Wolverhampton) Degree course and then onto the (BA Hons) Early Childhood Studies (Top-Up) at college - please see the college website for further details.
