Course Overview

For those who already have a skill or subject specialism to offer and who are qualified and experienced to at least a Level 3 in their subject, this course is a recognised qualification, designed to prepare you to teach in the post 14 sector.

The whole qualification is delivered part time over 18 months Level 4 in 6 months (1st year) and Level 5 in year 2 and replaces the City & Guilds DTLLS qualification.

Students who successfully complete this qualification will gain a further knowledge on aspects of planning, delivering and assessing inclusive teaching and learning. Whilst doing this, students will learn about theories and principles in education and training and demonstrate them in their practice. Student will also carry out research into professionalism in education and training and consider their impact on their role as a fully qualified teacher.

You will ideally be an in-service teacher employed within the Lifelong Learning Sector and able to provide evidence of at least 100 hours of teaching practice experience over the duration of the qualification.  A voluntary placement is also possible, as long as the 100 hours teaching requirement can be met.

  •  You should hold an appropriate qualification of at least National Qualifications Framework (NQF) level 3 in the subject area in which you are teaching or wish to teach.
  •   You will be required to demonstrate achievement at NQF level 2 in English/literacy/communication and will have achieved or be working towards achievement of NQF level 2       in mathematics/numeracy
  •  You will need a minimum of 100 hours teaching over the life of the course

If you are not from an English Language speaking country, you will need to have a minimum of UKVI IELTS 6.0. The qualification will be assessed through a combination of presentations, written essays, a portfolio of teaching evidence and observations of teaching.

On successful completion students can apply for QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills Status) which is equivalent to QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) in a school setting.

Progression to a full a BA (Hons) in Education through a number of universities is possible on successful completion of the course.

 

 

This course qualifies students to work in a variety of teaching environments including, further education colleges, military training institutions, secondary schools, private training providers and the voluntary/public sectors.

Previous successful candidates are now working as lecturers and managers in the Further Education and Secondary School Sectors, as well as going on to further study, completing BA (Hons) and Masters in Education.
