Degree Apprenticeship in Manufacturing Engineer - (Manufacturing Management pathway)

The five-year apprenticeship programme is structured into four major stages. During the first three years, apprentices will attend Bournemouth and Poole College on a day-release basis. The first two years will focus on studying at Level 4, followed by Level 5 in the third calendar year. To complete the full Degree (BEng) at Level 6, apprentices will undertake two additional years of study at Bournemouth University. The final year will also include preparation for and completion of the end-point assessment required for the Degree Apprenticeship. Upon successful completion, apprentices will not only acquire a range of skills tailored to business needs but will also gain valuable industry experience, equipping them for future career success.

These courses have been specifically designed, in consultation with Industry and Professional Institutions, to enable those predominately working in engineering to study alongside their work. Our HNCs and Degree Apprenticeships in Engineering are ideally suited to those who are looking to gain the essential skills to advance their career in a variety of engineering roles.

There are various entry points to the degree apprenticeship.

Relevant subjects required: Physics, Maths, CDT, Engineering, Electronics

To begin at Level 4/HNC, candidates will typically have 32 UCAS points, one A Level at grade C in a relevant subject or equivalent AVCE or national diploma/certificate.

To begin at Level 5/FdEng, candidates will typically have 120 Level 4 credits from an HNC in an appropriate discipline with a minimum grade of Merit.

To enrol as an apprentice you must be in employment and your employer agree to the process of signing up to and completing the necessary tasks within the Apprenticeship Service. We will be able to support your employer through this process as required.

The BEng Engineering Degree follows Bournemouth University assessment regulations.

Before the end of the 72 month Apprenticeship, two end-point assessment methods will assess the apprentice’s overall knowledge, skills and behaviours:

1. A Case Studies Presentation – allows apprentices to showcase work-based projects they have completed. Demonstrates practical application of the knowledge, skills and behaviours detailed in the standard. This is followed by a question and answer session led by their designated endpoint assessor.

2. Occupational Professional Discussion – enables the end-point assessor to evaluate the apprentice’s occupational competence. A formal discussion between the apprentice and the end-point assessor, it draws upon an occupational competence report produced by the apprentice and supporting evidence of how the apprentice has performed during the Apprenticeship.

As the course is an apprenticeship, you will be working at least 4 days a week in a relevant industry job role.

Completing this Degree Apprenticeship will give you the knowledge and experience to study a Master’s degree in a relevant subject.
