Please Note: The deadline for the academic year of 2024/25 has passed. The next intake of students will be in September 2025.
This is a full-time course for students aged 16 - 18 designed to give you the opportunity to gain a qualification and progress onto our Level 2 Carpentry course, or to prepare you to start an Apprenticeship or enter full-time work in the Construction Industry.
The course is based at our facility at the Fulcrum Centre campus (near the Tower Park leisure complex) in Poole.
This study programme also includes Personal Development, Employability and Work Experience. You will need Grades 2 or 3 in Maths and English on entry.
The course gives learners the opportunity to develop skills at their own pace and you will be assessed through a series of practical assessments and online tests throughout the year.
This is a one-year, full-time programme, which you will need to attend approximately three to four days of the week, for 36 weeks.

There will also be an oportunity for students to achieve extra units for a higher level pass if desired
Minimum English and Maths GCSE Grade 2-3. Depending on grades on entry the study programme will include GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and English. You will also need to bring a copy of your latest school report to the interview.
You will be assessed through practical assignments and projects and online multiple choice exams
You will be expected to complete 30 hours' of Work Based Experience activities.
Students should be able to progress onto a Level 2 full-time course or an Apprenticeship and our experienced staff will work closely with you to help you succeed
On completion you should have the confidence to gain employment as a labourer within the industry whilst continuing your studies to become fully-qualified

You will be required to have steel toe capped boots and basic stationery
You will be taught using a variety of workshop activities, lectures, group activities, self-study, employer visits and directed study. The facilities in Construction are purpose built and all practical jobs are designed to make the candidate job ready!
