Course Overview

This is a full-time course for students aged 16-19 designed to give you the opportunity to gain a Level 2 qualification and progress onto an Apprenticeship, or to prepare you to enter full-time work in the Construction Industry.

The course is based at our facility at the North Road campus in Poole.

This study programme also includes Personal Development, Employability and Work Experience, and depending on GCSE grades on entry, may include GCSE or Functional Skills in Maths and/or English.

Entry requirements for this course are either completion of a Level 1 Certificate in a Construction trade and/or Grade 4 GCSEs in Maths and English.

The course gives learners the opportunity to develop hand skills at their own pace and you will be assessed through a series of practical assessments and online tests throughout the year.

This is a one-year Full-Time programme which you will need to attend approximately three to four days of the week for 36 weeks.

  • Blockwork
  • Cavity Walls
  • Solid Walls
  • Safe Handling of Materials
  • Setting Out
  • Health and Safety
  • The Construction Industry
  • Working Platforms
  • Repairing and Maintaining Brickwork

Depending on GCSE Grades on entry - the study programme will include GCSE Maths and English.

This course is for learners with a keen interest in moving into Bricklaying.  Applicants should have tthe drive and academic ability to study a Level 2 qualification in one year.  This may involve home study and research of subject material.

For direct entry on to this course you will require passes at Grade 4 in Maths and English and a keen interest in moving into Bricklaying, and at the interview you will also need to bring a copy of your latest school report. 

If you have completed a Level 1 in a different Construction subject you will also be considered for entry to this course.

The course is assessed through a series of practical test pieces, assessment workpack questions and online multi-choice exams.

You will be expected to complete 30 hours of work-related experience tasks.

You can progress to a Bricklaying Apprenticeship.  You could apply to study another Level 2 full-time course at Bournemouth and Poole College.   You could potentially apply to study a T-Level in Construction/Built Environment.

This course is an ideal stepping stone for progression within the industry.   You can find work as a Bricklaying Apprentice, an Improver Bricklayer or Labourer after this course with the opportunity to progress within the industry to become a Bricklayer, Ground Worker or General Builder.

This course is designed for those with a specific interest in Bricklaying and the drive and academic ability to study a Level 2 qualification in one year.  This may involve home study and research of subject material.
