Course Overview

Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people looking for on-the-job training and the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace, backed up by attendance at college just one day a week.

An Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy will develop your employability skills and gives you valuable experience of a variety of routine beauty related activities. You will be working in a salon environment where your duties could encompass many areas of beauty such as communicating with colleagues and clients, dealing with customer enquiries, carrying out numerous practical beauty tasks, for example manicures. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.

To gain the full Apprenticeship you will work towards the following qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Beauty

Functional Skills in (if required):

  • Maths Level 1 or 2
  • English Level 1 or 2

The NVQ qualification is work-related and will relate specifically to your job role.

You will need to demonstrate an interest in the beauty industry and have a GCSE in English and maths to a grade D/3. All applicants for Apprenticeship training will be required to attend an interview. You should be medically able to take up employment in this vocational area.

You will be continually assessed throughout your training. The assessments will take place in the college and in the workplace, plus you will take some external tests/examinations for functional skills (if required). Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set to ensure you complete your Apprenticeship on time.

On successful completion of this Apprenticeship you could progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy.

As a College Apprentice you will have access to all college resources to help with your training. You will also have a personal training co-ordinator who will work with you and your employer to help you throughout your training period.

While your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your Apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and to learn. Employers will look for:

  • Good communication skills
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to carry out routine tasks unsupervised.
  • Reliability and flexibility
  • Ability to work in a team as well as on your own initiative

Employer contributions for 19+ approx £26.00 pw (prices subject to change).

A tool roll will be necessary to complete practical workshops.

You will be required to wear your workplace uniform on your College day during practical sessions. Small charge for essential equipment.

Your offer of Apprenticeship training will be dependent upon work placements being available.
