Course Overview

This course is designed for those who have an ambition for a career in the beauty therapy industry. It covers all the basic beauty therapy treatments and will provide you with a good base from which you could progress to further courses.

During the course you will develop practical expertise and essential knowledge of the industry.

Practical Skills & Treatments: please be aware that as part of your practical lessons students learn the treatments on each other. Further development is then performed on paying clients which is part of the assessment process.

You will develop a range of practical beauty therapy skills and underpinning knowledge of the theory required to pursue this career.

Subjects studied include:

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Health & Safety, and Salon Reception duties
  • Client Care and Communication
  • Facial Skin care
  • Manicure & Pedicure services
  • Eyelash & Brow treatments
  • Removal using Wax
  • Apply Skin Tanning techniques
  • Apply make-up
  • Effective Business Operations

You will also be required to attend functional skills dependant upon your GCSE qualifications.

Those with a passion for Beauty Therapy who want to pursue a commercial career into the Beauty Therapy industry.

You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades 9-3 (formerly A*- D) or above including Science, English and Maths . There is also an alternative route (Level 1 Beauty) for students not achieving these grades and will be discussed at interview/enrolment. 

You will be working on external clients from the start of the program.

You will be assessed through observations, assignments and will take ongoing examinations. You will also undertake a weekly work experience throughout the year and should be physically fit.

 

You may be expected to complete one day a week plus a 2 week block of work experience in a Beauty salon or spa. This is compulsory element and MUST be completed. 

Progression to suitable qualification such as the Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Beauty Studies will be discussed during progression week in the third term.  

Opportunites for employment could include high street Beauty salons, Spa's or self employment.  However most employers require a Level 3 qualification for insurance purposes.

You will also need to wear flat black enclosed shoes (no trainers or leggings).

Here at The College we have a reputation for offering excellent skills training. Our lecturers are professionals in their chosen fields, with sound experience, knowledge and expertise.

Working in our public salons you will gain valuable experience in offering a professional salon service, including customer care, client consultation and professional treatments in a realistic working environment.

You will have access to well equipped commercial beauty salons situated at our Lansdowne campus in central Bournemouth.

Enrichment opportunities could include visits to beauty therapy exhibitions.

Opportunities exist on the course to take part in national competitions.
