Course Overview

This course is designed to provide you with a good knowledge of barbering to enable you to develop a strong awareness of the industry. Level 3 will enable you to practise independently or rent-a-chair in an existing salon/barbers.  You will study GCSE Engish and/or Maths (if applicable) and work experience as part of your study program.

This programme places a strong emphasis on technical skills. You will study the following modules:
:Working in the hair industry

  • Follow Health and  Safety practice in the salon
  • Client consultation for hair services
  • Shampooing and condition the hair and scalp
  • Promote produces and services in the salon
  • Cut Men's hair
  • Cut facial hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Styling Men's hair
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair sector
  • Display stock to promote sales in the salon
  • Provide scalp massage services
  • Salon reception duties

Underpinning knowledge

 As part of your timetable you will be required to work one evening a week in one of The College's Salons, Flaunt Hair, as part of getting you work-ready. You will study Functional Skills in English or/and mathematics or GCSE in English and/or Maths

The course is designed to provide you with indepth working knowledge of Barbering. It will enable you to develop a strong awareness of the industry. During the programme you will be required to take part in work experience in a local salon/barbers, it could suit those who have completed Level 2 Ladies Hairdressing or L2 in Barbering

You will have needed to complete a Level 2 hair qualification, preferably in Barbering (but work experience will be considered if in Women's hairdressing)  A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades 9-4 (formerly A* - D) including English and Maths or have achieved a Level 2 Functional Skill in English and Maths. You will also need to bring in your own suitable models to be assessed on.

The course involves practical work and assessments including exams on underpinning knowledge and understanding

You will complete a minimum of 45-60 days of work experience in a local salon/Barbers

This is a good course for those wishing to go straight into employment in the industry as a Barber. Alternatively you could progress and develop your skills in Womens Hairdressing at L2.

You will also need to wear flat black enclosed shoes (no trainers). You should also wear smart black trousers (no leggings or jeans)
