Award in Education and Training (Level 3) (AET) (replaces PTLLS)

Course Overview

Would you love to become a teacher in the Further Education sector? Are you passionate about learning and helping others to learn?

Then the Level 3 Award in Education and Training (AET) is for you. This is a short, part time course designed to start your career in teaching, learning and assessment. There are no entry requirements, other than being functional in English and maths, however you will need to be over 18 years of age.

The AET Award is a mandatory minimum qualification for all those teaching in the Learning and Skills Sector and replaces the old PTLLS qualification.

The course will cover the following core areas, amongst others:

Review appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area
Demonstrate session planning skills
Discuss the delivery of inclusive sessions which motivate learners

For those wishing to gain a threshold teaching qualification in the sector or those who would like to try teaching for the first time.

It is preferred that you have a minimum Level 3 qualification in your own area of specialism and hold a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.

There are no requirements for teaching practice during this course.

The learner will undertake 1 micro-teach which will be graded, plus a number of short written assignments. There is no examination or requirement for a teaching placement on this course.

Learners who have completed this course will be awarded 3 credits towards the Diploma in Education and Training (DET).

Fees: For 2024/25 £495

Please note that this is a full cost course and is not eligible for funding or finance.

Subject to numbers, the aim would be to offer another start date this academic year, which would be on a Friday 9:30 to 12:30 otherwise it would be January 2026. The course is spread over 11 weeks, with 10 lessons as a break for half term would be timetabled.
