Course Overview

Apprenticeships are a popular choice for people looking for on-the-job training and the opportunity to gain nationally-recognised qualifications whilst earning a wage. Most of your training will be directly linked to the career you have chosen, gaining practical experience in the workplace, backed up by attendance at college just one day a week.

An Advanced Apprenticeship in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair will develop your employability skills and give you valuable experience of a variety of maintenance and repair activities. You will be working in a workshop environment where your duties could encompass many areas of garage work such as servicing, and the diagnosis and rectification of engine, chassis, electrical and transmission components from light vehicles. Health and Safety and housekeeping are also important parts of the qualification. Your exact duties will depend upon your employer.

Where possible staff from College Apprenticeships Training will assist in finding you an employer and a place of work (although students who are already employed are welcome to apply if sponsored by their employer). Your offer of Apprenticeship training will be dependent upon work placements being available.

Apprenticeships are a great option for school leavers who want to get straight onto the career ladder.

To gain the full Apprenticeship you will work towards the following qualifications:

Most of the assessment will take place in the workplace, plus you will take some external tests/examinations for Functional skills (if required). Your progress will be reviewed regularly and achievable targets set to ensure you complete your Apprenticeship on time.

As a College Apprentice, you will have access to all college resources to help with your training. You will also have a personal training coordinator who will work with you and your employer to help you throughout your training period.

You may also get help with travel costs but this will depend on your employment status and the terms and conditions of your Apprenticeship. This will be explained to you prior to commencing with an employer.

While your technical skills and knowledge will develop over the course of your Apprenticeship you will also need to demonstrate to potential employers that you possess relevant skills and personal qualities and are willing to work and to learn.
