Course Overview

 

This course is designed for over 19-year-olds.

This is a vibrant, multi-disciplinary Access to HE course aimed at adult learners who can demonstrate a strong interest and/or experience in media-related subjects.

The main aims of the course are:

  • To develop confidence in practical and creative skills in the chosen areas
  • To explore the theoretical and practical relationships between the various disciplines
  • To promote the use of working vocabularies and academic confidence
  • To promote academic and pastoral support and prepare for entry into Higher Education, UCAS applications and progression routes

Subjects studied may include:

  • High Education Study Skills
  • Film Studies
  • Audio Production
  • Moving Image and Digital Film Production
  • Photography
  • Graphics
     

 The course is intended for adults who do not have traditional sixth-form or vocational qualifications, preparing for and gaining entry to degrees and other Higher Education programmes. This course is designed for applicants who demonstrate clear commitment, maturity and motivation. 

The course is intended for adults who do not have traditional sixth form or vocational qualificatons, but are looking to return to education.  Our courses provide an excellent preparation for Higher Education and a step towards your dreams of university.

Students are admitted to the programme by application form and formal interview, with a further guidance interview where appropriate.   Where necessary, evidence of your determination to succeed may be required.  Applicants must be able to work at Level 2 or above for literacy and numeracy, producing certificates/evidence of this at interview. 

For those with English as a second language either IETLS 5.5 or successful completion  of The College language assessment is required.

We will offer you the opportunity to check your level in these subjects prior to/at interview and support you in identifying how you can improve these skills if necessary.
There is likely to be an assessment at the time of the interview. 

Students will be  continuously assessed throughout the course with a mixture of assignments, practical tasks, presentations, projects and unit examinations.  The portfolio of evidence created is internally assessed and moderated before final external moderation and certification.

To achieve an Access to HE Diploma you will need to pass a minimum of 60 credits with 45 credits in Academic Content and 15 credits in Academic Preparation Skills.

This course will prepare students for entry onto a range of HE courses across the disciplines. On successful completion you will be eligible to apply for an Honours Degree, HND or Foundation Degree courses including Animation, Communication and Media, Digital Media, Event Management,  Film Production,  Media Practice, Photography or any Creative Media related HE course.

Students completing an Access to HE course have a multitude of opportunities to continue their studies. Many of our alumni have gone onto study amongst other FIlm Production, Photography, Animation, VFX, Illustration, Media Studies, Tv and Broadcasting, Film and TV, 3D Visualisation and Scriptwriting.

Depending on your age and circumstances you may be entitled to receive significent financial help and/or benefits, and in some cases you may be able to attend the course at no cost to you.

Are you aged between 19 and 23?:   Any student who does not have a full level 3 qualification (such as A levels) and is aged 19-23 is eligble for support to reduce their fees.  The amount will vary according to individual circumstances, so please contact us on 01202 205205 for more information.  If you have an A level or similar qualification, please talk to the Adult Guidance Team as other courses may be more suitable for you.

Are you aged 24 or over?:    Students aged 24 or over who enrol on an Access to HE Diploma will normally be eligible to receive a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. This loan facility  is administered and issued on behalf of the government by the Student Loan Company. It means you don't need to make any payments up front and you won't need to make any repayments until your earnings are over £21,000 a year.

If you take out a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to cover the cost of your Access to HE Diploma and then progress to sucessfully complete your degree the Government will write off the loan that covered your Access course. This means you could study an Access to HE Diploma for free.
