Following a round of recent student successes at Bournemouth and Poole College, another high achiever was a finalist in the 2024 Dorset Apprenticeship Awards. The awards, held with Dorset Chamber, took place on 17th May at the Superior Seals HQ at Ferndown Industrial Estate in Wimborne.

Sonny Wilson, aged 18, studying on the AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) Level 2 programme of the Accounting/Finance Assistant Apprenticeship Standard worked as an SG Contractor in Accounting and was an Intermediate finalist. Sonny Wilson said about the ceremony: “It was fantastic to be recognised as a finalist in the awards. I worked hard in my role and my work ultimately paid off and I now have a full-time position with SG Accounting too. I loved working as an apprentice accountant and finance assistant and I enjoy the variety of the role. The apprenticeship awards themselves were fun to be a part of, and it was a great evening.”

Mike Wyatt, an HR Consultant of The Affinity Group said: “Sonny has been a great apprentice and we are very proud of his efforts and his place in the finals of the Dorset Apprenticeship Awards 2024. His talent in problem-solving, coupled with his confident approach and sense of humour make him a standout apprentice in the Group. We’re hoping to see him further his career now he has a full-time position with us and look forward to watching his future develop.”

The prestigious awards presentation ceremony hosted special guest Sonnaz Nooranvary – a creative entrepreneur craftswoman and upholstery expert who works on the TV show The Repair Shop and former Sunseeker International Ltd apprentice. Sonnaz began her apprenticeship at Sunseeker Motor Yachting Company at 17 years old. By the time she had turned 25, and fully driven by her own entrepreneurial spirit, she started her own business providing a full range of interior services to individuals and organisations.
