Placement Success for Foundation Student
Victoria, a student studying on the Foundation LEAP2 programme, started her placement at Dorset Children's Foundation Treehouse earlier this year, with the support of her Bournemouth and Poole College Work Coach – Anna Dennison.
Victoria has now completed her ten-week placement and enjoyed it so much that she decided to continue. She now volunteers independently each week on a non-college day and is learning fantastic new skills. When her Work Placement Officer, Karen, went to visit her on placement, she confidently served her by using the till.
Victoria now gets dropped off nearby and walks to her placement and then gets her lift home. This is amazing progress and just goes to show how a work placement can give all of our students the opportunity to work on their confidence and independence.
Paula Lock, Learning Manager for Foundation said: “This is excellent for Victoria and for her employer; we’re so pleased she is working beyond her scheduled ten weeks and that it is working for both of them. We’re in the process of increasing our engagement with employers for our Foundation students and they are a great local resource – so willing and keen to do more.”
