Students were invited to immerse themselves in our interactive exhibition exploring the remarkable and complex life of legendary playwright Oscar Wilde, an icon of LGBTQ+ rights of his time.  The experience was shown from 9.30 am -3.00 pm on Wednesday 19th June, in the new Immersive Suite on the Poole campus in the learning environment.

There were images of Oscar Wilde himself, showing his early life, his marriage, his rise to fame and an image dedicated to his stunning wit and persona, followed by one for his sad demise.

Oscar Wilde's background includes Anglo-Irish academic parents from Dublin. In his youth, he became fluent in both French and German. He later pursued classical studies at university, excelling first at Trinity College Dublin and then at Magdalen College, Oxford. Influenced by his tutors, Walter Pater and John Ruskin, Wilde emerged as a key figure in the philosophy of aestheticism. After completing his education, he relocated to London and became an integral part of its fashionable cultural and social circles. He was famously imprisoned and it was reversed in a huge U-turn for human rights.
