A warm welcome is extended to Luca Eliseev, 17, who will become our next Students’ Union (SU) President in the new September 2024 academic year.

Luca, 17, originally from Moldova, is looking forward to the challenge. He is currently studying on the Digital Production Design and Development T Level at Bournemouth campus and will enter his second year of the course whilst in office as President. Luca will spend time at both Bournemouth and Poole campuses in his role, as well as representing students studying in the Fulcrum Centre.

Luca is interested in working his passion for IT into the role, and keen to establish some clubs for students, where he feels there is room for further development. He intends to bring to the table firstly, a football club, a chess club and a Robotics club, plus others if he can.

Luca moved to the UK at 12 years of age with his family and says the UK has opened his horizons for education, and he wants to help instil how grateful he is for this and to pass on his energy for education to other students, whom he says  -  sometimes - ‘take their education for granted’. He thinks in Moldova, education could have been improved. Around 44% of children do not achieve minimal proficiency in foundational skills, necessary for further learning. And he says “I am lucky to have access to high-quality education”.

Luca says: “I can’t wait to introduce more clubs as there are currently opportuntiies to develop extra-curricular activities for students. I want to make sure their voice counts and is respected and considered. I want to help them to solve problems if they experience them, and try and take their point of view and to be considerate of their situations. As English is my second language, I’m also keen to help represent ESOL students across the college.”

Luca has one older sister and is working in MITS (the college’s IT department) over the summer break, loading Windows 11 onto machines and doing other IT support. He won the election for SU President with an outstanding 60 votes. Luca was advised to run for President by his tutor Will Procter after becoming course representative and doing well in that role.

As well as Luca’s interests in IT, he is keen to develop his programming skills in Javascript and CSS. He is an avid guitar player and loves reading Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series, and particularly likes George Orwell’s 1984.”
