HE Music Studio Opening – February 2025

On Friday, 14^th February 2025, the Music department marked the opening of a smart, new music recording studio. Invitees included Neil Duncan-Jordan, the MP for Poole who opened the studio and brought his bandmates along to record a track! 

Also joining the college for this first-rate opening were Jonathon Carr (Arts University Bournemouth), David Marchant, former leader of popular music studies at The College, who wrote the original Level 3 Popular Music course spec back in the 90s; lecturer and jazz guitarist.

The guest list also included Dave Thomas - who has been instrumental in the Bournemouth and Poole College’s successful Music provision over the years. 

Julian Jacobs, Music Lecturer said of the day:  "The event was a resounding success and most enjoyable for all involved. Not only does it mark the completion of the first stage in the Music departments studio rebuild program, but it also celebrates the introduction of new industry spec resources for students, and of building more links to the community, industry and stake holders past, present, and future. Great stuff!"

Studio 1 has been completely rebuilt from the ground up; and now houses an Audient ASP8024 Heritage Edition 24 channel large format mixing console, built in Hampshire, UK. This is paired with an Antelope Audio Orion 32+ Gen 4 audio interface converter, and a Mac Studio M2 Max with 64 GB of RAM running Protools and Cubase. The installation also includes various outboard like compressors and reverbs, with the monitoring taken care of by Genelec 8040, Adam Audio A77H and a for mono, an Avantone Mixcube. 

Studio 1 also boasts a vocal booth within the control room and a 40 square meter live room with a separate drum booth. The college, which runs Level 2 and 3 courses, plus an FdA course for Arts University Bournemouth (AUB), also houses four other recording studios which will soon benefit from the same kind of refit. Other resources include multiple rehearsal rooms, 2 Tech Suites and an excellent selection of microphones, synthesizers and all things music.
