The college is extremely pleased to announce that our Sunseeker Skills Academy provision, has been shortlisted for an award prestigious in the apprenticeship sector. The category is for ‘Best New Apprenticeship Programme’.

The Academy, which started in 2023, adds approximately 100 new employees to the company’s boatbuilding workforce in a year.  The outcome of the shortlisting in the Apprenticeship and Training Awards – (or ATA) will be announced on Tuesday, 11th March 2025.

Our work on the Sunseeker partnership for semi-skilled boatbuilders has been recognised as one of the top four new initiatives in the country.

This award has been the result of the efforts of many people across multiple departments who have been instrumental in making this programme a huge success.

Antony Carr, Executive Director of Higher Education and Skills, said: “This is a fantastic award to be shortlisted for and is a true testament to our Sunseeker Academy students and staff’s hard work and as a result, the Academy has been in the news several times this year. It’s a great programme and ensures people have very real and tangible careers at the end of their studies. Many members of staff have helped to make it a success.”
