An Electrifying Night of Entertainment with the Level 3 (Year 2) Performing Arts Students in ‘Variety 2024!’
Wowing Audiences, the talented Level 3 Year 2 Performing Arts students took over the stage with Variety 2024!—a thrilling showcase bursting with music, comedy, dance, and drama. This dynamic, student-driven performance delivered a night of non-stop entertainment and unforgettable moments!
On Thursday, October 24th, at 7 pm (with a matinee at 2 pm), the Jellicoe Theatre was alive with the vibrant energy of Level 3 Performing Arts students, ages 17-19, who presented an exciting array of music, dance, comedy, and drama in their aptly titled show, Variety 2024!.
The cosmopolitan programme featured everything from lively musical numbers and dance battles to comedy sketches and a captivating murder mystery. The students’ dedication and talent shone through as they brought their own unique touches to each performance, including a sketch from "Groan Ups," guitar-singing duets of McFly's "It's All About You," and a powerful rendition of Elbow’s "One Day Like This" by the whole year group.
Twenty-one students made up the ensemble, each contributing to a diverse and entertaining showcase. Every song, sketch, and dance was carefully selected, rehearsed, and performed by the students themselves, demonstrating not only their artistic skills but also their ability to collaborate and support one another on stage.
The audience’s response was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on the humour, commitment, and teamwork evident in the group’s performance. As one attendee noted, 'it was clear how much fun the students were having' —a joy that radiated into the audience.
Richard Batt and Chloe Clarke, Performing Arts lecturers, expressed their pride in the students, with Richard noting, "Our students worked incredibly hard on this, as their first performance of the academic year, and they truly pulled it off! Creating a successful variety show presents unique challenges, but this was a remarkable success. We are most proud of how the students 'pulled together', supporting each other and independently demonstrated not only a culmination of the skills they have developed so far, but the drive and commitment needed to make an event like this successful."
It’s a strong start to the season for the Jellicoe Theatre—stay tuned for more exciting performances to come!
